Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week: Priscilla Quihuiz, San Jose soccer

San Jose soccer player Priscilla Quihuiz is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for Jan. 16-21 after she had received 32.92% of the vote at the 5 p.m. deadline Wednesday.

Oakland Tech basketball player Taliyah Logwood (28.25%) finished second and Leigh soccer player Jadyn Mason (19.46%) was third.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Quihuiz, a sophomore, scored two goals and handed out one assist in a 7-1 win over Yerba Buena. A few days later, Quihuiz scored a hattrick (three goals) in an 8-1 Thursday win over Hill.

To nominate an athlete for next week’s poll, email by Monday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. Please include stats and team results.

We also review stats submitted to by coaches/team statisticians for consideration.

Winners are announced each Friday on the Mercury News & East Bay Times websites and, starting Sept. 30, in the print edition of the Mercury News and EB Times sports sections.
