Mineta Airport awarded almost $11m for upgrades, improvements

Airport gets upgrades grant

The Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport was recently awarded $10,990,000 through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed by President Joe Biden. The airport is located in Rep. Ro Khanna’s 17th Congressional District, which includes Sunnyvale.

The funds are earmarked for upgrades to the airport terminal and improvements to ensure that the facilities comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act . The project was selected as part of a grant made through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Terminal Program in fiscal year 2022.

“The funding from this grant will make vital improvements to the airport’s terminal and accessibility,” Khanna said in a statement.

The grant “will bring San Jose’s international travel hub into the 21st century,” said Rep. Anna Eshoo, who worked with Khanna and Reps. Zoe Lofgren and Jimmy Panetta to secure the funding.

“These funds will help improve Mineta San Jose International Airport and ensure it is accessible to everyone in our community,” Lofgren said. “Americans with disabilities should be able to travel and access airport amenities fully and equally.”
