Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA), who was found flipping off the Republican dugout at Thursday’s Congressional Baseball Sport, clarified that it was a male in the stands, not a GOP lawmaker, whom she designed the gesture toward.
Sanchez, who was roundly criticized following the incident, claimed in a statement Friday that she “heard an offensive and misogynistic comment from the Republican facet” and reacted “in the heat of the instant.” Whilst the California Democrat did not say where by on the GOP side she heard the remark, she did not deny that it came from a lawmaker.

Talking to NBC News’s Frank Thorp that exact same working day, though, she claimed that she was not directing her ire at anyone in the dugout, but instead at an “obnoxious supporter.”
“It was not the crew. It was an obnoxious enthusiast who shouts misogynistic s*** at me every single year,” she explained, adding that “it is the similar dude” just about every 12 months.
Requested what precisely the person explained, Sanchez demurred, saying: “I’m not likely to dignify it with a reaction for the reason that it truly is unpleasant and it’s crude, and it has no spot at a charity baseball video game.”
“If the Republican girls would have stood up and explained that’s not appropriate in its place of, you know, trashing me for my response, then we may possibly have a position the place you will find no misogyny that’s tolerated by any one anyplace,” she included of the criticism she confronted.
Sanchez reported in her initial assertion that “the Congressional Baseball Recreation is just one of my favourite events of the yr. It’s a terrific cause and provides both equally sides of the aisle collectively for a night off from partisan politics. That is why it genuinely struck a nerve when I heard an offensive and misogynistic comment from the Republican side on my way again to the dugout. In the heat of the instant, I reacted.”
“I have no tolerance for men who make ladies truly feel like they are unimportant or do not belong — specifically on the field,” she reported. “I will usually stand towards that kind of bigotry.”
The Republicans gained the game versus the Democrats by a rating of 10-. It marked the second calendar year in a row the Republicans gained the Congressional Baseball Activity, with 2021’s recreation ending in a score of 13-12.
