Rhode Island state Senate applicant Jeann C. Lugo has officially resigned from his marketing campaign immediately after a movie emerged of him attacking his Democratic opponent Jennifer Rourke.


Lugo, the sole Republican applicant, is a law enforcement officer for the Providence Law enforcement Department but has given that been put on go away with pay out as they investigate the predicament. The section confirmed it was Lugo in the movie Rourke posted of the assault.

The police officer is billed with assault and disorderly perform. Rourke and Lugo were at a rally protesting the Supreme Court’s selection on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Overall health Group at the time.

“As an officer that swore to guard and provide our communities, I, however, saw myself in a situation that no personal must see them selves in,” Lugo explained. “I stepped in to safeguard somebody that a group of agitators was attacking.”

Lugo announced the end of his campaign Saturday on Twitter but has considering the fact that deactivated his account.

Neither Lugo nor Rourke responded to the Washington Examiner’s ask for for remark.
