In the beginning of 2023, the 9 official and unofficial nuclear powers held 9,576 ready-to-use nuclear warheads — up from 9,440 the 12 months prior — which have a “collective damaging energy” equal to “greater than 135,000 Hiroshima bombs,” in response to the Nuclear Weapons Ban Monitor revealed by the NGO Norwegian Folks’s Assist.
